Do You Wish?
©1994 by Ben BohnhorstFrom his book:
A Service on the Sufficiency of Feeding Finches and Other Poems
Ridgeway Press, 1994
If you wish for love,
I shall love you -- do you wish?
You must. You must wish.I offer my hand
To mingle your fingertips
With mine, tips I'll kiss. And with my fingers
Touch your cheek, if you so wish.
(Brush... Touch... If you wish.)Will kisses please you?
Your lips? Will you give kisses
To kisses I give? No. You do not wish
Kiss or touch, nor will you take
The hand I offer.So. I shall pretend
It does not matter, your lips.
Your lips... No matter.
