Notes from Lynn:
This was the debut album for The Fabulous Heftones. Brian conceived of the idea. It is a sort of "song cycle" telling a love story with a collection of songs in a carefully-chosen order.
Many of these songs include the word Moon in the lyrics, with so many rhyming words it can be amusing. By the Light of the Silvery Moon is the mother of all "Moon June Spoon" songs. However, Aba Daba Honeymoon comes in a close second, and wins a bonus point for having the guts to use the word "baboon" in a love rhyme! (There is nothing to say that love can not also bring a smile, is there?)
The songs on this CD, all of them more than 80 years old, are significantly familiar pieces to modern ears. These are true classics. The style has passed long ago yet their sing-ability is so fine that families have been passing them from generation to generation.
In my family, we learned these songs in the car driving to Minnesota (a 14-hour drive) each summer. If you also grew up in the USA, surely at least a handful and perhaps a majority of these songs will at least ring a bell.
We hope you enjoy our collection!
