Great Schedule this Week!
OK, friends… I’m busy this week and would love to see a few of you local folks perhaps.
Saturday afternoon, 2-5pm, I’m teaching Wristwarmers at Little Red Schoolhouse. One session only, $25 includes the pattern. Use any yarn and a set of Double Pointed Needles in about 2 sizes smaller than the ball band suggests. I can help with that in class, but some folks bring stash yarns and that’s fine.
If you’ve never knit in the round, this is a good starter project. In bulky yarn, I can knit a pair of these in one day. And I can’t think of a more practical thing to knit, I wear them inside, outside over gloves in really cold weather, outside sans gloves in spring/fall. The best.
Saturday night, Brian and I are singing as The Fabulous Heftones at Altu’s restaurant. It’s always a great time and the food is incredible! Show time is 6:30-8:30pm, dinner hour. You can go from there to another evening event if you choose, and make it a double-play music night. Oh, there’s no cover.
Sunday I continue my First-Time Toe-Up sock class at Threadbear. I heard from Esther that she has two socks ready to start the heels, she has been quite industrious. Can’t wait to see!
On Wednesday (11-1:30 at Threadbear for 3 wks, $30) is my favorite thing, perhaps! We’ll be doing “Design Your Own Colorful Mittens” at Threadbear.
This is basically a stranded-knitting project in two colors of yarn. We start at the tip of the mitten so you can fit as you go, no swatch needed. I bring a handout but not a pattern, I teach you how to make it up as you go. It’s powerful stuff, you become powerful over your project when you understand how to make it happen without following a printed pattern. The photo here is Fay’s first pair from the class, which were worn by her Son-in-Law on a musical tour of Europe. Cool, huh?
Then next Saturday the 21st I teach Guitar Herringbone Hat at Little Red Schoolhouse, one session 11-5 with a short break for lunch (bring a sandwich if you like) although I stay there to help those who choose to work as they lunch.
This hat is a wonderful first-time project for those who have been afraid to try using two strands of yarn on the same row. It has only 3 rows of two-color knitting in 2 places, with a rest in between… sort of a wonderful easy striped hat with a twist on just a few rows.
It’s no problem if you’ve never done double pointed needles. You can even use a circular needle for most of the hat, if you prefer. The only skills involved (besides 2 color knitting which is the focus of the class) are: cast on, knit and purl, and decrease. That’s all there is to it. I’m very excited about this design, and I’d love to have you join me.
