Altu’s and Doug Berch in the News
Anne Erickson writes a column in the Lansing State Journal’s What’s On section. She interviewed me a few weeks ago and yesterday did a lovely story about this Saturday’s show at Altu’s.
Doug Berch is a very fine musician, a wonderful person, and definitely puts on a nice show (he plays many acoustic instruments). I’m delighted that he has been highlighted in this way.
I’m hoping that a good crowd will come this weekend. The show is 6:30-8:30, map is here. I do not expect to be there. I’ll be up in Lake City at Harvest Gathering, performing on Saturday afternoon, and if I get home in time I’ll run over to Kristi’s for the Knitterpalooza gathering.

Okay, I think the circles are getting closer between what you do/where you have been and what I do/where I have been. I think Doug Berch used to live in Colorado and may play pennywhistle, among other things, and I might have driven to Boulder to take a few whistle lessons from him. (I would have taken more lessons–they were great, and worth the trip–except for the distance and my generally impecuniary status at the time . . . ). Am pretty darn sure it was Doug Berch, although I have been known to be wrong once in a whle.

Deborah, I bet you’re right about Doug Berch’s having lived in Colorado. I Googled his name. The first hit shows a message he wrote himself to a message board (?) at which he’d been lurking. Go ahead and Google him; I’d copy the link here for you, but don’t want to muck up Lynn’s blog (hi Lynn!).
I don’t know Doug, but I know his wonderful wife, C. I think they both work at Elderly Instruments in Lansing.

You both have him pegged. Doug lived in Boulder and now is in Lansing. He did work for Elderly Instruments for a number of years but has just recently gone full-time professional as a musician. His wife worked there before he moved here and still works there.
I got to see the last piece or two, ran in to the restaurant just as we got back into town from our show at Harvest Gathering. It’s always good to be around Doug and Cynthia (who is a knitter as well as a musician, and who made the quiche I photographed here a week or two ago).
