Ilene’s Version of Fast Florida Footies

Ilene writes that her daughter likes a variation on my Fast Florida Footies. Here is a picture of her daughter wearing one of the pairs Ilene made for her.

Ilene does these toe-up with a provisional cast-on. She also does a short row heel. It appears from the photographs that she is not purling the sole stitches, either. However she says that her daughter’s favorite sox are the ones where she makes a short rolled cuff with slipped stitches to prevent the roll from rolling too far, which she got from my pattern.

Ilene’s daughter used to request wool sox (like the ones here, pictured in a Regia yarn) but now she prefers the ones made of Cascade Fixation. Fixation yarn is made of cotton and lycra. It comes in a tiny ball that looks like it couldn’t make much fabric. However, Ilene writes “I got two footies out of one ball, size 7.5 womans.” I have known I could get two footies out of one ball for myself and for my mom, but we have pretty small feet. This is very encouraging news, that even a 7.5 can get a pair from one ball.

I can see why these would be popular with a younger crowd. They look great. This colorway is just wonderful with the blue jeans, as well. Thanks for sharing your photo with us, Ilene!
