Aladdins, and Art for the Soul

Saturday, December 6th, 2003

Well, Friday I danced at New Aladdins restaurant with Hyjara. We had a great time.

My friend Mary came up from Ann Arbor to see me dance (she grew up very close to Foster Center) and she got there just after I had changed back into my civilian clothes. Boo hoo! She had the time wrong and missed the last show. We are hoping she will come up and see me again next time, on February 6.

I met Mary at the Borders’ Books knit group in Ann Arbor, over a year ago. It turns out that I knew her mom from around 1991 when I worked at another community center. It’s a very small world, isn’t it?

I had intended to wear one of the costumes that Phaedra made for me at Christmas last year. It is a two-panel skirt with lots of beading, and a vest which fits very closely and fastens under the bosom. For one thing, I needed to alter the vest just a bit. Also I just didn’t have a proper bra-top to wear with the vest. I borrowed a bra/belt set from Zia, but the way the beaded trim was applied to the top it would not work with the vest.

In the end I gave up on the vest entirely, not having enough time to alter it and not having the right bra-top to go with it. However, the silver set I borrowed from Zia was so very flattering on me that I chose to wear it with my favorite purple skirt. It worked out just great. Maybe I’ll do the vest/panel skirt outfit in February when I dance there again.

Local Art Show
Tomorrow, for the local folks, is Art for the Soul, at 6177 Zimmer Rd., Williamston. Drive east on Haslett Road from East Lansing, past Haslett until you reach Zimmer Road (I believe there is a blinking light at that corner now). Head north (left) until you see a sign on the left side of the road for the sale, which is in the home of one of the participating artists. There should be signs to follow, to make it easy. The hours are 10am to 6pm. I’d love to see you there.

I am wiped out from too many nights of not enough sleep. I think I will sleep like a baby on Sunday morning. Sigh…
