An Early-March Thaw

Thursday, March 5th, 2009

It’s 62F/16.6C right now in Lansing. I have turned off the furnace and opened the front door.

I can hear the neighbors, and the cars driving by. I can feel a mild breeze waft in to where I sit. I love being part of the whole in this way.

Now, I am not fond of gardening, especially when my hands get mud on them. However, there is something about the first day one can do a little work outside. And the result of having done it is undeniably worth the hassle.

Today I cut down the last peony fronds and lily stems that we did not get to last fall. I also cleared some of the leaves that wilted where our bulbs are planted.

I sneezed a lot, so loud the neighbor across the street surely could hear me! I’m just plain allergic to the great outdoors, so I only stayed out for about 20 minutes. The good news? I was out there that long without a coat, just a sweater! Love it.

There are a few daffodils trying to peek through the top of the soil. Spring will not stay away forever!

Wow, a Star-Studded Review!

Thursday, March 5th, 2009

John Hayes of the blog “Robert Frost’s Banjo” reviews three CD’s this week, three different acts.

Wow. I am humbled and energized to be rubbing elbows with these groups, even if only electronically. I’m a long-time fan of the other two acts. Serious, Mind-blowing Wow!

He includes at the bottom of his column, a link to the video of us, taken by Bucqui and posted on Youtube, singing “Bye Bye Blues.” The video was taken at Central United Methodist Church in downtown Lansing, Michigan, for the “Four Chairs” benefit for an autistic classroom in Lansing.

You can click on the image below to see the same cut, if you like. (It will link you to Youtube, as I can not seem to make embedded Youtube videos work both in Internet Explorer and Firefox browsers using my blog software.)
