Three Colorways: One Sock Design

Thursday, October 1st, 2009

Color is an amazing thing. I particularly am enthralled by how colors impact one another when they are side by side.

Here I show 3 socks, all knit from the same pattern. Two are knit from the same yarns, but I switched Color A and Color B for the second sock. I plan to wear those two as one pair, when I finally get to put them in my sock drawer. Elizabeth took a photo of me wearing them together on Wednesday afternoon, at Rae’s shop.

I figure if I made “Chippy Socks” for toddler Isabel (six unmatching socks from the same 3 yarns), then I could make unmatched Hot Waves socks for myself. Never mind, it helps me and those who may knit my pattern, to see some of the possible options and how different they might look when knit.

The pattern is in the book Joy of Sox, published by Lark books. It is my design. The name of the pattern is “Hot Waves.” The book is starting to make its way to local yarn shops, and nine copies made it to Rae’s Yarn Boutique this week. She asked me to sign the page where my pattern is printed, and I did that for her on Tuesday.

I am still dyeing yarn for my “Meet the Artist” event at Rae’s Yarn Boutique in Lansing, Michigan, this weekend. She will have my yarns on Friday/Saturday/Sunday.

I will be in the shop all day Sunday, from 11am to 3pm, to answer questions, meet folks, and have a grand time. Maybe some of you locals will join me?
