What is This Craziness?I'm Lynn Hershberger,
also known as LynnH or ColorJoy.
I was commissioned by the Michigan State University Horticultural Gardens to conceive and execute a large yarn bombing. We had only 6 weeks from conception to execution. I hope that outsiders can see how strong and large the sometimes-invisible fiberart community really is.
A Simple Thank You is Not Enough. Thanks to the MSU Department of Horticulture, particularly Dr. Art Cameron, Director of the MSU Horticulture Gardens.
Conceived and coordinated by Lynn DT Hershberger, but made possible by hundreds of participants, thousands of hours of happy labor.
Contributors include members of the Mid-Michigan Knitters Guild, Mid-Mitten Shop Hop participants, Habibi Dancers, Make-Along participants at all four Mid-Mitten Yarn Shops, readers of the ColorJoy weblog, family, Facebook friends, and local friends.
Pre-assembly space assistance was provided by local women-owned businesses Just B Yoga in REOtown Lansing, Small but Mighty Arts in Haslett and Rae's Yarn Boutique in Lansing.

ColorJoyful Yarn bOMbing at MSU Horticultural GardensYarnbombing is an international movement where objects, not usually clothed, are embellished with knitting and/or crochet.
Each yarnbomb artist / group has a different approach to the artform.
I'm focused upon the happiness and community that enter when objects are made colorful with yarn. It's a lovely surprise to encounter such a project accidentally.
I know this was worthwhile when I see toddlers hurry to the tree and touch it. They pet it like a kitten. Yes, this silly act has value!
What was the concept here?Art is enhanced by community. This project was created in pieces contributed by hundreds of knitters and crocheters in several states and in Canada. It was assembled by local members of that community. It will remain in place through the winter.
Why do you type bOMb that way?bomb - b's = OM
Hence, Yarn bOMb.
This changes a destructive word into a peaceful one.
Iíve never liked the violent words which have been used for this particular creative form. Yarn Bomb, Guerilla Knitting, Knit Graffiti. No thank you!
Therefore, Iím calling this one a Yarn (b)OM(b)ing. Or Yarn OMing for short... as in meditation and peace.
This phrase makes me happy. I'm hoping the mood spreads to you and others, as well.
May this project bring a smile and peace to you.
